The herd crashed thunderously through the trees. Limbs snapping as bodies surged past them, breaking them instead of bending them out of the way as they frantically ran. Aside from the pounding hooves there was just the roaring sound of everyone breathing, deep inhales and rough exhales. The opening in the trees with the lone pond suddenly appeared before them with a small mare drinking from its shore. She snapped her head up, muzzle dripping at their approach and barely had time to leap out of the way as some of the herd ran right into the pond with their momentum. Only the last few mares had time to slow down and dance around the water before they came to a side heaving stop. The white and tawny mare watched them warily from a distance, for even she knew a large group of mares running meant bad news. Theia was panting too, but she kept moving around the herd with her eyes scanning everyone. She was counting. A frown formed on her face and she pinned her ears worriedly.
